Welcome to a younger, edgier Powderhound. Not going to lie, giving our magazine a more youthful appeal wasn’t easy. Getting into the minds of young people is hard. Should we pepper our editorial with drug references? Start riding to the office on fixie bikes in our 2020s? Should we be sexting? Remixing? LOL we’re ROFLMAOing right now.
Luckily our Australian athletes know exactly what it takes to be a cool young freeskier in this modern age. We’ve lined up a whole host of Australian talent for you to wet your American Apparel over. Once you’ve read our interview with Russell Henshaw and got the low down on freeskiing politics from Anna Segal you’ll be dub-stepping and dub-throwing like a champion. Chuck in a trip with Charlie Timmins into the NZ backcountry, a whirlwind Macedonian adventure from Chris Booth plus profiles of up and coming athletes Jesse Houghton, Nat Segal and Janina Kuzma and presto! You’ve got a magazine that’s fresher than first turns on a powder day, and just as epic.
Also on offer is a great chat with international wonder-kid Sean Petit, a not so snowy but very culturally fulfilling journey across the main island of Japan and a gallery so stacked with goodness you may just blow an optic nerve. Skiing has come a long way since timber planks, bamboo poles and leather ankle boots. We don’t deny there have been some cringe-worthy moments (try to forget the 80s, we have), but in 2011 skiing as found its balance, with one foot planted firmly in the park and the other spinning of cliffs in the backcountry. So here you go frothers! Powderhound’s 2011 issue. Complete with a poster for your walls and a sweet, high-density video-disc for your play-tendos. Yew!
Love from The Powderhound Team.
PS Halfpipe is in the Olympics! Stoked? We are.
