Deep low equals deep snow. Looks like the weekend of the season so far is on the way....
WEEKLY WRAP
A deep low pressure system over the Southern Ocean sent a series of powerful cold fronts across southeastern Australia during Tuesday and Wednesday, leading to snow showers and gale-force winds through the Alpine resorts of New South Wales and Victoria.
24-hour snowfall totals on Wednesday morning were in the 10-20cm range across the resorts and by the end of the week we will see close to 50cm of fresh snow accumulate across the resorts.
Strong to gale-force winds through Thursday will reduce visibility for both skiers and also those driving up to the mountains. Snow on the roads will also make for treacherous driving conditions.
Snow showers and winds will start to ease a little on Friday and although visibility and driving conditions won't be great, the skiing sure will be! Just remember to pack or hire the chains for the trip up.

WEEKEND OUTLOOK
After a slow start to the season it's all come together through August, with a series of fronts delivering some of the best late season falls in a decade. With a high pressure system bringing an easing of snowfalls and winds on Saturday, it's looking like an amazing day to head out and find some deep wind-drift powder.

Hotham at its finest 25 August 2010.
Sunday will be the pick weather wise with early cloud expected to clear to a mostly sunny day for the majority of resorts. Most of the runs may be tracked out but there will still be fantastic skiing on offer.
If you haven't had a ski or board this year, this is the weekend to do it, as it doesn't get much better in Australia. Good luck on the weekend and check back this time next week for all the latest info.
Cheers,
Alex
